Welcome to the home page of the GlobeRiders IndoChina Expedition 2007 Live!Journal. For those of you who have already signed-up on our reservation list for next year's IndoChina Adventure, stay tuned for what is going to be The Grand Tour. If you are not quite ready to travel with us on two and three wheels around the world, make yourself comfortable and enjoy this "virtual" journey with us as we ride The IndoChina Expedition 2007. This project is what we consider a scouting Expedition, with the intent to conduct the inaugural GlobeRiders IndoChina Adventure in 2008.

On this Expedition, we shipped our bikes from Seattle, Washington, USA, to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.  Our roughly 70-day ride will take us north through Vietnam, then over into Lao, Cambodia and Thailand.  If time allows, we'll continue on down through Malaysia to Singapore. Along the way, we'll scout the route and survey the accommodations we'll include in next year's tour. We'll capture GPS waypoints to make navigation easier for our future riders. And Sterling will be shooting, logging, and rough editing hours of High Definition video, which will be edited into a new GlobeRiders IndoChina Adventure DVD for release next year.

Our Live!Journal consists of Three parts:

First are the "updates" or Live!Journal Dispatches.  Once a week, or as time and internet connections permit, subscribers to our email newsletter will receive email updates announcing that new or updated Live!Journal chapters are available for viewing here on the GlobeRiders website. Each email dispatch will contain a short summary, picture of the day, and one or more links to new Live!Journal content.

Second is the Live!Journal itself.  A new webpage or Chapter will be created for each week of the Expedition.  Each Chapter will contain photographs, slideshows and stories from the Expedition. In a very real sense, it is a diary or "weblog" of what we are thinking or experiencing en route in SE Asia.

The Live!Journal Chapters Menu at the top and bottom of each page will allow you to directly access any Weekly Chapter page.  Those highlighted in blue or yellow are available for viewing, those in white are still to come.

Third, courtesy of Touratech AG and their Touratech QV software and services, the final component of the Live!Journal is our Navigation Technology page. My bike is equipped with a GPS satellite transponder. Any time the group is actually moving, our position will be updated via satellite every 30 minutes for the entire duration of the tour, and you'll be able to see where we've been, and where we are, in a tracking frame showing our position updates superimposed on a pan and zoomable map.

Our ride begins on 06 September in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Over the next 70 days we will ride 8,000 miles or 12,800 kilometers through Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore.

Come ride with us!
